Zoos around the country are starting to celebrate Halloween because they give kids a fun, safe place to trick-or-treat. My local zoo celebrates with candy stations and animal programs. I recently visited a zoo that did a similar thing with added hayrides and pumpkin carving contests.

Officials at The Tautphaus Park Zoo in eastern Idaho say the zoo is starting construction on a new sloth bear exhibit this week.
Zoo Superintendent Bill Gersonde says he’s thrilled that after years of fundraising, the bear exhibit will open next spring. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Thursday morning.

A black rhinoceros died when they were moving her from Kansas City to Portland. She was an 8-year-old female named Kipenzi. She was going to Oregon Zoo to breed.
